 Background  
 The farm Abbotsdale was purchased by Bishop Gray in 1869 as a site for the resettlement of freed slaves. It is now run as a residential area for CPSA members in reduced circumstances (mainly coloureds) who may become 'erfholders' at a nominal rent and who are expected to follow the principles and practice of the Anglican Church.
