A2618 ROBERT SOBUKWE PAPERS, 1954-1997

Copyright 2011, Historical Papers Research Archive, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa

 10 boxes

This collection was presented to the Historical Papers at the Library, University of the Witwatersrand, by Benjamin Pogrund, former Deputy editor of the Rand Daily Mail. It consists partly of letters between Sobukwe and Pogrund and others, and partly of research material for Pogrund's book 'How can man die better...Sobukwe and Apartheid' which came out in 1990. The collection gives an insight into the history of the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) and black consciousness as well as providing a first-hand picture of Sobukwe, one of South Africa's greatest anti-apartheid figures.

 Archivists' Notes:
Not all the digital items have been published. Once the Sobukwe family has reviewed personal correspondence, further items will be made available.
